An FPS reminiscent of black-and-white cartoons from the early 20th century. Mouse has us play as John Mouston, a detective fighting criminals dwelling in a corrupt city.
Mouse is an oldschool FPS aesthetically inspired by early 20th-century cartoons. It was developed by a Polish indie studio Fumi Games.
Playing as John Mouston, an anthropomorphic mouse detective, the player must immerse themselves in a dangerous world of trickery and murder. On his journey, the detective discovers the darkest secrets of his corrupt city while experiencing a story inspired by classic noir movies.
Mouse is a gruesome FPS, its cartoonish visuals contrasted by bloody death animations when killing enemies, including burning them to ash and bursting their heads open. Against the gangster swarms, the player can wield numerous weapons such as a revolver, a Carcano rifle or a Tommy Gun. In melee we'll use our fists and a mallet, while against groups we can hurl dynamite. Explosives can also be used to break certain walls. Aside these mechanics there are also additional activities, such as breaking into safes.
Over time we'll learn how to upgrade our gear and abilities using Fantastic-o-Matic vending machines. John Mouston can also use consumables, such as cigars, cheese and coffee to temporarily buff himself during combat.
The game offers a lot of gameplay freedom, being enjoyable both for players who enjoy planning out encounters and those who enjoy charging in head-on.
The most distinctive aspect of Mouse are its monochromatic visuals reminiscent of The Walt Disney Company's first cartoons. The characters all wear huge white gloves, have long, flexible limbs and are animated in rubber hose style.

DualShockers: 9.5 / 10
It draws you in like a detective magazine, getting you invested in the state of the city, while keeping you merrily chugging along with good ol’ cartoony violence. It’s not a revolutionary game as far as the FPS genre goes, but considering its adherence to multiple kinds of retro aesthetics, I don’t think being revolutionary was the mission statement here.
PCGamesN: 9 / 10 by Paul Kelly
Mouse P.I. For Hire takes every noir trope and turns it into something new. A monochrome shooter with a delicious mystery at its core, the varied locales and wonderful voice cast make this one of the best games I've played all year.
MKAU Gaming: 8 / 10
MOUSE: P.I. For Hire is a reminder that creativity often thrives when developers take risks. The visuals, gameplay, soundtrack, and story all work toward the same goal, blending old-school inspiration with modern ideas in a way that feels fresh rather than recycled.
