Christofer Sundberg is one of the founders of Avalanche Studios, which became famous mainly for the Just Cause series. He left his company in 2019 and founded a new Liquid Swords studio a year later. Over time, other veterans from his previous team joined him, and their debut work became Samson: A Tyndalston Story - an action game set in a noir convention.

Gameplay

In Samson: A Tyndalston Story, events are viewed from a third-person perspective (TPP). The game features the titular city, consisting of open districts that we explore on foot or behind the wheel of vehicles.

Jobs

The driving force of the game are the tasks taken by the titular hero. Completing them is necessary for him to pay off his debt, and to do so, we need action points, which are limited in number. For this reason, not all opportunities to earn money can be utilized, forcing us to make difficult decisions about what to focus on and what to ignore.

No dragons, no lasers, just violence. New game from the Just Cause creator resembles GTA 4 and Max Payne

Players were quick to notice the similarities to GTA 4 in the teaser for the new game from the co-creator of Just Cause. Whether that's enough to get them interested in Liquid Swords' upcoming title is another question.

AltChar: 65 / 100 by Semir Omerovic

At $24.99 (which is a great price to be fair), it's a solid deal if you're desperate for something GTA-lite. Just go in knowing that Samson never fully delivers on its own potential, and given how promising that potential is, that's the most frustrating thing about it.

Prima Games: 6 / 10 by Ali Hashmi

Samson is ultimately a janky but endearing experience, with the foundation of something genuinely compelling. Beneath the rough edges lies a strong core and a likeable cast, but the lack of polish and unreliable combat hold it back at every turn. It’s easy to see what the developers were going for, but in its current state, it’s hard to fully recommend.

SmashPad: 1.5 / 5 by Andrew Farrell

Samson is an awful game packed with poor gameplay at every avenue. There is almost no fun to be had here unless you just want to gawk at how miserable everything is. It’s honestly impressive to me just how badly nearly every aspect of this game was flubbed, and I deeply regret the time I spent with it. If you enjoy absolute trainwrecks, you may get some laughs out of it, but anyone with any standard for game quality will want to steer very clear of it. Hopefully, your steering is more functional than the game’s.
